How does 4BD use monthly donation subscriptions?
An effective democratic response to climate breakdown will not take place until the public understand the truth about climate collapse and the human consequences. And this won’t happen until young people, the generations most threatened, are empowered to act. We believe a potential army of diligent, brave young activists are anxious to participate, some of whom have proven their commitment by engaging in nonviolent civil disobedience and going to prison because of it. But they can’t continue to engage and pay their bills at the same time. The primary purpose of monthly donation subscriptions is to provide the stipend funding necessary to recruit and engage the generations most needed now. Thus, most donation funding goes to provide stipends.
Do all 4BD volunteers receive stipend funding?
No, most 4BD volunteer do not receive a stipend, despite some of them working as many as 20-30 hours per week. Stipends are reserved only for those volunteers who require funding to meet basic cost of living expenses.
Do different hourly stipend rates apply for different 4BD volunteers?
No, all volunteer hourly stipends are the same: £15.00 per hour.
How does 4BD ensure that stipend requests are accurate?
Requests for stipend payments are submitted monthly on a required form, reviewed first by the Sub Team liaison, then submitted to the Core Team for final review and approval before a request for payment is submitted.
Does 4BD have other operational expenses?
Yes, monthly donation subscriptions help pay for Website (maintenance, hosting, SEO optimization) expenses; social media (accounts, advertising) expenses; CRM (Action Network) expenses; Zoom hosting expenses; print media expenses (flyers, posters, stickers, banners); and speaker honorariums at 4BD events.
Will Donors receive any benefits?
Yes, donors will receive a monthly Donors’ Newsletter providing information about recent climate reports; advanced access to 4BD workshops; behind the scene stories about 4BD operations, and access to periodic on-line meetings with the 4BD Core Team. We anticipate the Donor Newsletter being operational by April 1, 2026.
